Congratulations to all our club players on a remarkable first season!!! Seriously, I could spend the next hour writing a novel about all of the amazing things these girls accomplished in only 4.5 months. I tried my best to blog everything via my Facebook page, so I will spare everyone the sappy reads, and get straight to work, because that is what Gaston County does!

To keep the girls touching a volleyball, here is what our area has lined up so far, starting next month:

1.) High 5 Sports rec thru Bethlehem, signups are taking place now, you can register at http://www.high5sports.org/baseball-2/, cost is $40. Age groups are 8-11 and 12-15. Practices begin week of April 24, Games begin May 6 – June 10 with trophies handed out at the last game. The club will be very involved in this program, all of our coaches will be running teams, all of our equipment will be used. It will be a great, affordable, way to get your daughter gym time, teach the game to others, encourage, make new friends, exercise, and work on things like overhand serving for example. We will end the rec program with a 3 net tournament outside (kicking off what’s next – see below)!, it will be a lot of fun! Please spread the word!!!

2.) Starting June (check our Webpage calendar) we will start playing some open pick up grass once a week, on Thursday nights – “Thursday Night Lights!!!”. Park and Sun Sports nets and Molten BV5000 balls. We will start 3 nets, 3 balls and hopefully end 5 nets, 5 balls – packed with girls. We are planning to use the soccer fields at Bethlehem Church south campus during the evenings (7:45 – 9:45 PM) under the lights!! This will be for ALL girls in Gaston that want to play (not just our club).  Cost will be 5 dollars a player per week (bring 5 dollars when you show up to play etc.). There is no better way to grow your game than 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 – due to the number of touches on the ball. We will divide skill groups up into competitive play, rec play etc on each net if needed depending on who shows. It will be simple round robin play with a large whiteboard to keep track of wins/losses. I might even toss in some prizes towards the end of this ongoing event.

Girls can partner up and play in Barefoot Juniors 2v2 grass tournaments (U12, U14 U16 and U18). http://www.bearfootvolleyball.com/schedule.html the first one is May 21. If your girls are USAV members for the year, this works out good. And is a great opportunity for them to get some 2v2 doubles competitive play. This outdoor club runs 35+- nets, these are really cool events that take place in Conover/Hickory.

Also, girls can play in JuniorLink Charlotte 2v2 sand tournaments (U12, U14 U16 and U18). http://www.juniorlinkcharlotte.com/sports/volleyball/ the first one is May 13 and the second one is July 1st. These also are USAV (Carolina Region) events! These 2v2 events will be in the SAND, held at Renaissance Park in Charlotte.

And, Mustang Stampede Grass Double Volleyball Tournaments. Dates: May 27th and June 17th. Where: East Lincoln High School (Soccer Field), Hwy 73, Denver, NC 28037. Parking will be available at Catawba Springs Elementary School-Across the street. Ages: 12U, 14U, 16U, 18U. Cost: $50 per team. Pay at door – Cash Only. AGE GROUP DEFINITIONS:
18 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after September 1, 1998 or Players who were born on or after September 1, 1997 and a high school student in the twelfth (12th) grade or below during some part of the current academic year
16 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after September 1, 2000
14 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after September 1, 2002
12 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after September 1, 2004

3.) Summer Camps in our area (do not wait, register your girls ASAP if interested, these are open to everyone who lives in Gaston):

Kings Mountain, for rising 6th-12th graders.
